Our Story
Mount Kenya Sawmills started in 1976 by our grandmother, late Durgaben Shah.
She was a tough woman who started small through hardship and strong work ethic, using a tractor-operated saw and supplying timber to yards in Nairobi. In the 1980s and 1990s, we imported second-hand band saws and heavy machinery, processing around 18 metric tons of logs per day. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, with a full moratorium on forests, we stopped processing and moved into joinery and carpentry.
